Point of View #3
In the point of view of people, wildlife conservation is good for society and good for wildlife. However, when policies “begin to restrict humans’ jobs, housing, transportation, food, health, and safety, the planning and implementation of conservation programs becomes more difficult for the public to support” (Unit Eight: Wildlife Conservation - Man In Nature). A famous case where people and wildlife conservation clash was that of the removal of the Maasai from their ancestral homes to set up wildlife preserves. In 1945, a series of national parks and reserves was announced throughout East Africa. In most cases, Maasai were excluded from these reserves, furthering pressure on the overpopulated savanna's (Wildlife and the Maasai | Cultural Survival). It is always important to balance the needs of people with the needs of wildlife.
